골프존, 미국 L.A. 청소년센터에 골프 시뮬레이터 기증

지난 15일, 골프존은 Roy W. Roberts II Watts/Willowbrook 청소년센터의 자선행사에서 골프존의 첨단 기술을 선보였다.

전세계 골프 시뮬레이터 시장을 이끄는 골프존은 청소년센터에 최첨단 골프 시뮬레이터를 기증했다. 이날 행사에는 골프존이 공식 후원하고 있는 LPGA의 샛별 앨리슨 리 선수를 비롯해 NBA 올스타에 9번이나 선정된 크리스 폴과 PGA 개리 우드랜드 선수가 참석했다.

LA 출신의 UCLA 대학에서 심리학 학위를 취득한 앨리슨 리 선수는 “크리스 폴, 개리 우드랜드처럼 유명한 분들을 골프와는 무관한 장소에서 아이들과 함께 만나게 될 줄은 상상도 못했다“면서, “오늘 행사에서 아이들에게 골프존의 골프 시뮬레이터를 통해 골프를 소개할 수 있는 기회를 갖게 되어 뿌듯하다“고 말했다.

앨리슨 리와 크리스 폴, 개리 우드랜드는 체육관에서 100여명의 청소년센터 아이들과 함께 농구와 골프 게임을 즐겼다. 특히, 골프존의 골프 시뮬레이터를 통해 아이들은 인생 첫 티샷을 날린 수 있는 기회를 가질 수 있었다.

골프존의 골프 시뮬레이터를 경험한 바 있는 크리스 폴은 “골프에 대해 잘 알지 못하고, 골프 클럽조차 한 번도 잡아본 적 없는 아이들과 함께할 수 있어 기쁘다“면서, “제가 그랬던 것처럼 이 아이들도 공이 제대로 맞는 순간을 느끼는 순간 골프에 푹 빠질 것“이라고 말했다.

이어서 “이곳의 많은 아이들은 4-5시간동안 골프에 투자할 시간도 없거니와 골프 클럽의 회원권도 없다. 골프 시뮬레이터는 아이들에게 교육의 기회를 제공하고, 실내에서도 충분히 골프를 치는 방법을 배울 수 있다.”면서 시뮬레이터의 우수한 교육 효과에 대해 설명했다.

L.A. 청소년센터 Calvin Lyons 회장은 “골프 시뮬레이터를 기증한 골프존에 감사를 표한다”면서, “그동안 골프는 우리 클럽에서 누락된 요소로 아이들은 골프를 전혀 접하지 못하고 있었다. 골프존의 골프 시뮬레이터는 아이들에게 또다른 중요한 능력을 배울 수 있는 훌륭한 기회를 제공할 것“이라고 소감을 밝혔다.

골프존은 단순 기증에 그친 것이 아니라 유소년 클럽의 직원들에게 GDR을 활용한 골프 레슨법과 기기 작동법에 대해서도 교육했다.

골프존 미주유럽사업본부 임동진 상무는 “골프존의 골프 시뮬레이터는 골프와 IT, 그리고 수학과 과학까지 모두 집약된 최첨단 장비로 이를 Metro Los Angeles 유소년 클럽에 기증할 수 있어 기쁘다“면서 “골프 시뮬레이터를 통해 아이들이 최초로 골프를 경험하는 모습을 지켜보면서 골프 시뮬레이터와 스크린골프를 더 많은 사람들에게 소개하고 싶은 동기부여가 됐다“고 말했다.

Golfzon, Lee, Paul Make Big Impression At Boys & Girls Clubs Of

Metro Los Angeles Charitable Event

Technology and charity shared the stage on Monday, Aug. 15 at the Roy W. Roberts II Watts/Willowbrook Boys & Girls Club. But it was the everlasting smiles on the faces of young children that won the day.

GOLFZON, a world-leading golf simulator company, provided a state-of-the-art golf simulator and brought in Los Angeles native and LPGA star Alison Lee, a GOLFZON Ambassador, for the presentation. Lee joined nine-time All-Star basketball guard Chris Paul and PGA Tour golfer Gary Woodland at the Boys & Girls Club as the simulator was placed in the Multi-Purpose Room and new CDW technology was offered in the Technology Room.

“I wouldn’t have a chance to meet people like Chris Paul or Gary Woodland or to be more influential toward kids without golf,” said Lee, who lives in Los Angeles and is completing a degree in Communications at UCLA while playing her second season on the LPGA. “That’s what makes this sport so special to me. And then to attend an event like this where the kids have the opportunity to be introduced to golf on the GOLFZON simulator – that is so cool. And the kids were amazing. That made my day.”

August 15 was the first day of school for many of the approximate 100 Boys & Girls Club children who came to the inner-city Los Angeles site in early afternoon. What awaited was a surprise visit by Paul, whose Chris Paul Family Foundation provided the first new technology for the facility last year in concert with CDW’s Tech Fore! Kids and followed up with the upgrades last week. Lee, Paul and Woodland, a CDW Ambassador, interacted with the kids in golf and basketball games in the gymnasium and transitioned to the GOLFZON simulator in the adjacent Multi-Purpose Room. The children stood in line for a chance to talk with the stars and to try their hand at the golf games, provided by The First Tee, and on the simulator.

Paul has experienced the GOLFZON simulator before and was excited about the opportunity for Boys & Girls Club participants.

“It is great to have kids in here who maybe haven’t heard much about golf, but surely have never held a golf club in their hands,” Paul said. “They get the chance to hit one good shot and if they do they’ll be hooked, just like I was. A lot of these kids and many adults don’t have four or five hours in a day to play or they don’t have memberships at golf clubs. The simulator gives the kids an opportunity to learn. They can get a lesson on the simulator and learn how to play within this building. That makes it worthwhile for me.”

CDW, a leading provider of technology solutions and services, installed the technology upgrades that included Lenovo tablets and notebooks to support administrative tasks as well as after-school programming for local youth – everything from mentorship and tutoring to career preparedness and the arts.

“We’re thankful to GOLFZON for what they’ve done by donating the simulator,” said Calvin Lyons, President and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles. “To have this type of technology in a community where kids aren’t typically exposed to golf provides them with a great opportunity to learn another important skillset. Golf has been a missing element in our Clubs. They can now use a newly developed skillset through golf and leverage everything you learned to develop great business contacts. These kids can now come in when no one else is around and practice like crazy.”

The state-of-the-art GOLFZON GDR golf simulator will remain in place as Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles employees were tutored on how to instruct the children on the fundamentals of the game and simulator operations.

“GOLFZON is proud to offer this simulator to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Los Angeles,” said Tommy Lim, the Senior Vice President of GOLFZON, who was in attendance. “GOLFZON offers the opportunity to introduce golf, technology and math and science all together in one simulator.
